Thrift Shop Thursday: diy patched denim

Happy Thrift Shop Thursday!!

So, I’m sure you have seen these awesome denim jackets with patches and pins that have made their way back from the 80’s/90’s.

I adore them and have been wanting one for quite some time. However, most of them are pricey and it’s hard to find the “right” one (if you know what I mean 😉.) So of course I said, “it’s time for a diy project!” This way, I can customize it to my liking, no one will have the same exact jacket, and I’ll save at least 50 dollars. Win-win-win!

All you’ll need is a denim jacket: mine was $11 at uptown cheapskate (San Antonio.) I bought a size large because I wanted it a bit baggier. You’ll also need some pins and patches (duh!) I got most of mine from Walmart for $3.94/package- yayuhhh!

(I got iron-on patches because um hello, the easier the better. Right!?)

After I attached all of the pins & patches, I decided to “distress” the denim a bit. All you need for this is a blade, some sandpaper and your fingers! I made a quick video on how to do this:

And that’s it! Here’s the finished product-

I love the grungy-vintage look of this! Over time, I’ll probably add more to it, but for now I am pleased with the way it turned out. 🙂 I can’t wait to wear this when the weather cools down!

What do you think of this diy? Let me know in the comments! Remember it can be done with just about anything, not only jackets (i.e. Purses, pants, hats!)

Next week, I will do a Lookbook with my “new” thrift shop denim. 😁

Until next time,

Elizabeth Grace
